Epic Fly Rods: How to Change the Backcountry Fly Reel Retrieve Direction
If you are an avid angler who loves exploring the backcountry with your fly rod, you understand the importance of having a reel that suits your dominant hand. Fortunately, with Epic Fly Rods, changing the retrieve direction of your backcountry fly reel from left to right-hand (or vice versa) is a simple process that you can do yourself. Follow these steps to make the switch seamlessly:
Step 1: Remove the Spool
- Start by loosening the spool nut on your backcountry fly reel. Look for the nut with the distinct red 'E' logo on it and carefully loosen it to remove the spool.
Step 2: Disassemble the Bearing Housing
- Once the spool is removed, you will notice a single screw that holds the bearing housing in place. Grab a flathead screwdriver and carefully undo this screw to detach the bearing housing from the reel.
Step 3: Flip and Replace the Bearing
- With the bearing housing removed, locate the bearing inside. Take out the bearing and flip it to change the retrieve direction.
Step 4: Reassemble the Reel
- After flipping or replacing the bearing, reassemble the bearing housing by securing it back onto the reel with the screw. Make sure everything is tightly in place to prevent any issues during your next fishing adventure.
Happy fishing!
